Nigerians Now Import Ice-Block From Niger Republic Due To Power Outage

Due to the worsening outage of electricity in

Katsina metropolis, the residents, especially

owners of businesses requiring refrigeration for

their wares, now travel to neighbouring Niger

Republic to purchase ice blocks.

Although Nigeria supplies the bulk of electricity

used in the neighbouring country, Peoples Daily

however, observed that residents of Katsina have

for months been experiencing acute power supply

where it is now rare to have uninterrupted power

supply for at least 30 minutes.

A Fura and cold water vendor along IBB Way,

Katsina, Uztaz Muhammad Umar told our

correspondent that he travelled from Katsina to

Maradi in Niger Republic to buy the ice blocks so

as to preserve his goods.

He noted that the huge special ice block made for

sale to Nigerians cost between N300 to N500

adding "we use to wrap it in a rag or a special

leather bag to prevent it from melting. We thank

God that we have Niger Republic closer, otherwise

we would have left this business for long".

Ogochukwu Onuchukwu- A Dead Woman shares her story

A dead woman, Ogochukwu Onuchukwu (she died

last month) shares her story and writes a letter to

her husband from the grave. I culled the letter

from her WEBSITE and wanted to share it because

it’s something we all need to read and hopefully

someone will learn from it. Read it below…

My mum is crying. I can see her from here. She

has aged since the last time I saw her. Why does

she look so old and why is she so thin? Can

someone console her? Can someone make her

stop crying?

I try to get up but I can’t. I try to reach for her, but

I’m stuck where I am. It is very dark in here, and

very cold, so very cold.

What am I doing here? Where is everybody?

Where are my children? I begin to panic, to

struggle; I want to get out of this dark room.

I can hear Uzo calling. She’s calling my name.

Then, I see mum again. And I hear Uzo again. I

don’t see my children. Where are my children? I

can’t see beyond the walls of this dark and cold

room.

This just messed with my head…I hope you fair

better. Continue reading…

Uzo calls again.

She sounds desperate to rouse me from my sleep.

I am struggling to wake but I can’t. I open my eyes

and they shut of their own accord.

I am powerless to keep them from shutting. And I

find as soon as I stop struggling, my sleep

becomes sweet repose. Suddenly I don’t want to

wake from it just yet. It is peaceful.

I see mum again, and I see Uzo. Uzo keeps calling.

She won’t stop calling. She is crying too, just like

mum.

Can someone bring Kamsi and Amanda to me?

Can someone bring my babies to me? I need to

hug them, Kamsi, especially. Is he crying too and

calling out for me? Does he understand that I am

gone? Kamsi will miss me.

He is a special child, you know; Kamsiyochukwu –

my son and my first child.

I prayed and longed for his birth. He was the

blessing from above that would seal Kevin’s love

for me and give me some footing in his home and

some acceptance from his family.

Before Kamsi, I was a nobody in Kevin’s home. I

was born the last of nine children, the baby of the

family. I was used to love and affection. I was

everyone’s baby. I grew up knowing that everyone

had my back, I grew up knowing the safety and

security of being the baby of the home. You may

then understand my shock when I stepped out of

my home and into new territory with the man of

my dreams only to find that I was really not as

special as I had been made to believe. I look back

to that day when Kevin took me home to introduce

me to my new family. The cold and rude shock of

the welcome his brother’s wife gave me set off an

alarm in my head.

These people didn’t think I was special. In fact, her

first words were, ”Kevin, ebe kwa ka isi dute

nka?” (Kevin, “Where on earth did you bring this

one from?) That would be the first time I would be

addressed as “this one” and from then on, I

grappled with the realization that I was not

welcome in my new home.

I remember my first Christmas at Ihiala as a new

bride. My brother-in-law’s wife would sneer and

clap and refer to me as “Ndi ji ukwu azo

akwu” (the people who process palm fruits with

their bare feet). I knew she meant my

impoverished home town of Nsukka. She would

sing to me all day long telling me the only reason

why their brother married me was because of my

beauty and complexion.

Now, I lie here and I wonder if I was in my right

mind to ignore the several other alarms over my

12- year union with Kevin.

I had to ignore them, I told myself. I had already

taken my vows to be with Kevin until death did us

part.

They never really wanted me, I can now see. But I

was too blinded by love to realize that. I needed to

do something to cement Kevin’s heart with mine. I

needed to remain Kevin’s wife and to prove to the

world that indeed Love would conquer all.

When after one year of marriage there were still no

children, the painful journey that sent me to my

grave started. I went from specialist to specialist,

ingested every kind of pill that promised to boost

my fertility. As my desperation grew, so did

pressure from Kevin’s family. My horror- movie life

story started playing out; the horror- movie life that

has sent me to an early and cold grave from where

I write this letter to my husband.

********************************************

*************************************

My sweet Kevin,

We started to fight over little things. The fights were

worse after you visited home or attended any of

your numerous family meetings. You came home

one evening and asked me to move out of the

bedroom we both shared and into the guestroom

downstairs. The next time you returned from the

meeting, you tied me up with a rope and used

your belt on me. No one heard my screams.

I remember when you told me that your family had

asked you to remarry. You showed me documents

of all your numerous landed property including

the house we lived in. Your brother was listed as

next of kin. When I asked you about it, your

answer rocked the ground I was standing on. You

said, “What have you to show that entitles you to

any stake in this household?” You were referring

to my barreness.

It is funny how to my family and friends, I was the

beautiful and loving Ogo, whilst to you and your

family I was a worthless piece of rag. You called me

barren. I could have fled but your love and

acceptance was of more worth to me than the love

and admiration of the world outside our home. I

desperately sought to be loved by you, Kevin.

In your family’s presence I felt unworthy, unloved

and unwanted. Yet, I stayed on. I would make you

love me one way or the other and I knew that one

sure way would

be to produce a child, an heir for you. That was

the most important thing to you.

I began the numerous procedures, painful

procedures, including surgery. I gave myself daily

shots. At some point the needles could no longer

pierce my skin. My skin had toughened to the

piercing pain of needles.

After seven years of marriage, our prayers were

answered. God blessed us with our son

Kamsiyochukwu, which means ‘’Just as I asked of

the Lord’’. God had intervened and miracles were

about to start happening because for the first time

in seven years, my mother-in-law called me. Finally

I was home. I had been accepted. I was now a

woman, a wife and a mother. Finally there was

peace. Kamsi will be four in November.

The miracles stayed with me because 18 months

later through another procedure, Chimamanda

was born. Her birth was bitter sweet for me. Sweet

because you Kevin, my husband, and my in-laws

would love me more for bearing a second child,

but bitter because this particular birth almost cost

me my life. The doctors had become very

concerned. You see, I had developed too many

complications from all the different procedures I

had undergone in the journey to have children and

these were beginning to get in the way of normal

everyday living. I developed conditions that had

almost become life threatening. So the doctors

sent me off with my new bundle of joy and with a

stern warning not to try for another child as I may

not be so lucky.

I chuckled, almost gleefully. Why would I want to

try for a third child? God had given me a boy and a

girl, what more could I ask for. I was only ever so

thankful to God.

Kevin, you and I gave numerous and very

generous donations to different churches in

thanksgiving to God. All was well. I was happy and

fulfilled. Kevin, you loved me again. Your family

accepted me. Life was good. And all was quiet

again. …………………… For a while.

Then fate struck me a blow. As if to remind me that

my stay in your house was temporary and was

never really going to be peaceful, Kamsi – our son,

our first fruit, my pride and joy and the child that

gave me a place in my husband’s home, began to

show signs of slowed development; the visits to

the doctors resumed, this time on account of

Kamsi.

We started seeing therapists. After we’d been from

one doctor to another I decided I had to resort to

prayer. I was frightened. I was terrified. I was

threatened. I started to feel unwell. I had difficulty

breathing. I needed to see my doctors, Kamsi too.

He wasn’t doing too well either. He had difficulty

with his speech. He was slow to comprehend

things. I did not know for sure what was wrong

with him but I knew all was not well. Not with him

and not with me. We

were denied visas to the USA because we had

overstayed on our last trip on account of Kamsi’s

treatments. So whilst we waited for a lawyer to

help us clear up the immigration issues with

America, I applied for a UK visa and sought help in

London. But by then, trouble had reared its head

at home, again.

Kevin, you had again become very impatient with

me. My fears were fully alive again. The battles it

seemed I had won were again in full rage. My

husband, in your irritable impatience and anger,

you told me to my face that our son, my Kamsi, was

worthless to you. You said he was abnormal. You

said that our daughter, my Amanda, was a girl and

that you had no need for a girl child because she

would someday be married off. I remember, in

pain, that you didn’t attend Amanda’s christening

because you were upset with me. You told me your

mother was more important to you than “THESE

THINGS” I brought to your house. You were

referring to our children, were you not? “THESE

THINGS”.

My heart bled. I wept bitterly. Then I quickly

calmed my fears by telling myself that you were

under a lot of stress at work and that you were

also probably reacting to all the money that you

had spent on my treatments. Surely, all that was

getting to you? Even when you threatened me with

a knife, twice you did that, I still felt unworthy of

you and very deserving of your hatred. Even when

you would say: “I will kill you and nothing will

happen because you have no one to fight for you”,

I kept on struggling to get you to love me because,

Kevin, your validation was important to me

You had refused to give me money for my medical

trip to London. I knew then it was because you

had your hands full with caring and catering for

everybody who was dear to you. Your finances

were stretched. I thought then that in time you

would come around.

My health continued to get worse. Eventually, I

made it to London. After extensive consultations

and tests, I was given a definitive diagnosis. My

condition was life threatening. It was from this

time, when it was clear that I required surgery to

save me life that I came face to face with a different

kind of war from our home.

Kevin, you stopped speaking with me. I was in

pain, in anguish and in tears. I didn’t understand

what was happening. I had stayed three weeks in

London and Kevin, you never called, sent a text or

inquired how I was faring. You stopped taking my

calls. Instead I got a call from my cousin in whose

care I had left my children. She was frantic with

worry because there was no food in the house for

the children to eat; Kevin you had refused to

provide food for our children. Kevin, you had also

refused to pay for Kamsi’s home schooling.

Then Kevin, I received that e-mail from you. The

only communication from you for the entire period

I was in London.

Do you remember? It was an angry email. You

berated me for putting your integrity at stake at

your work place. Apparently your employers had

called a hospital in London to inquire about me

and were told that no one by my name was ever

their patient. I later found out that you had given

the wrong hospital name to your employers. Do

you remember, Kevin?

For the first time in my 12 year marriage, the alarm

bells in my head began to sound real. For the first

time in 12 years, I felt real anger stir up in my

heart. Kevin, I was angry because you paid no

heed to the hospital where your wife was at in

London. You had no clue and cared little about

what I was going through. Yet you would berate

me for putting your INTEGRITY at work at stake.

Your integrity was your primary concern, not my

health.

Then it hit me! All these years I was trying to be all

I could be for you, Kevin, to make you happy, to

please you, Kevin, ……… you actually hated me. You

didn’t want me in your life. The signs were all

there. Your family had showed me from day one

that they didn’t want me. I was the object of a

hatred that I could not explain. I

couldn’t understand why.

Then I saw the hand writing on the wall, all those

many things that went on. You even sold my car

whilst I was still lying on a hospital bed in London,

with no word to me. I was not to learn of what you

had done until I returned to Nigeria. The doctors

had allowed me to return to prepare for surgery.

Kevin, do you remember that on my return I gave

you a pair of shoes I had bought for you? Kevin,

my husband, do you remember hurling those

shoes at me? Kevin, do you remember me

breaking down in tears? Kevin, do you remember

me asking you that night, many times over, why

you hated me so much, what I had done to make

you hate me as much as you did?

“You are disturbing me, and if you continue, I`ll

move out and inform the company that I no

longer live in the house. Then they will come and

drive you away”. Kevin, my husband, that was your

response to me. Did you know then I only had

days to live? Is that why you told me that would be

the last time I would see you physically? Did you

know it would only be a few more hours?

I still had a surgery to go through. Kevin, since you

wanted no part in it, I had contacted the medical

officer in your company directly for referrals. I left

Eket for Lagos on Saturday. That same day I

consulted with the specialist surgeon and surgery

was scheduled for Monday morning.

In those final hours, as I prepared for my surgery,

I was alone, my spirit was broken. I had lost all the

fight in me. Kevin, I knew that nothing I did or said

would turn you heart toward me, and I had

nobody for whom you had any regards who would

speak up for me.

In those final hours, Kevin, I called you. This was

Sunday morning, less than 24 hours to my death.

Do you remember, Kevin? I called you to share

what the specialist surgeon had said. I was still

shaking from your screams on the phone when I

got in here. You did not want me to bother you,

you screamed. I should go to my brothers and

sisters, you screamed. I should pay you back all

the money you gave me for my treatment in

London, you screamed. Kevin, did you know that

would be my last conversation with you? My last

conversation with you, my husband, my love, my

life, ended with you banging the phone on me.

Recalling the abusive words, the spitting, the

beating, the bruising, the knifing, and the promise

that I would not live long for daring to forget to

buy garden eggs for your mother, an insult you

vowed I would pay for with my life ……., I knew

then it was over for me. There was no rationalizing

needed any longer. Even the blind could see ……….

You did not want me in your life.

I went in for surgery on Monday morning,

February 27, 2012, and after battling for several

hours, I yielded my spirit.

Kevin, my husband, I lived my promise to God. The

promise I made on the day I wedded you.

For better ………………………… For worse

For richer …………………………. For poorer

In Sickness ………………………. And in health

To love ………………………….. And to cherish

Till DEATH US DO PART!

And it has.

NOW I AM DEAD!!!!!!!

Just as your mum predicted ….. Her cold words

follow me to morgue. She swore to me that I

would leave her son’s house dead or alive. I

couldn’t leave whilst I still breathed. It had to be

through death, and death it has become.

Kevin, you are FREE! And, so am I.

Your freedom is temporary. Mine is eternal.

Whilst you still have freedom, remember Kamsi and

Chimamanda.

Lovingly yours until death,

Ogo.

I am gone. Gone forever. But if one woman, just

one woman will learn from my story, then maybe I

would not have gone in vain.

My heart weeps for my children, my mummy, my

sisters and my brothers, my extended family. These

ones, I was a gift to. These ones, they loved me.

These ones, they wanted me. These ones, they

needed me. These ones, they wish I had spoken

out earlier.

***

Written by someone who was part of her life and

witnessed her struggles. RIP Ogo.

The 12-Year-Old Girl who refused to cut her hair since birth

Natasha Moraes de Andrade, who lives in an

impoverished shanty town in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil,

has never had a haircut and plans to sell

the 5ft 2in mane of hair for £3,500 to serve as

extensions. At 5ft 3in, she is just one

inch taller than the length of her wavy chestnut

hair - and the maintenance it requires sees her use

a full bottle of shampoo every week.

Her mother Catarina Moraes de Andrade, 42, said

admirers told her never to cut her daughter's

beautiful hair as it was so thick and long.

Children in her local neighbourhood chant

'Rapunzel, let down your hair' at her window, and

passersby frequently take photographs

Natasha's mother Catarina Moraes de Andrade

implored her daughter to cut her hair so that she

could join in with the other children

'At the moment she is like a prisoner. She just goes

from school to home again,' Mrs Moraes de

Andrade said

But now she's urging her girl to chop it off

UK woman set to marry her 5th husband at age 29

A serial bride who married FOUR

times by the age of 24 seems to be

planning her fifth union after leaving

fourth husband and setting up with a

new lover.

Alison Smith, from Arbroath, in Angus,

Scotland, refuses to accept that she

just isn’t the marrying kind although

she has been very unlucky-in-love.

Her first husband, George

Greenholme, ran off with her mum

after just ten days.

Her second husband, Daniel Innes,

was a last-minute stand-in for a fiancé

who jilted her just before her

wedding - she married him when she

was heavily pregnant.

And the third spouse was William

McKellica, an alleged bigamist.

Her last marriage lasted four years,

but Miss Smith was dumped by her

fourth husband, Alex Shepherd, when

he allegedly caught her cheating with

her current partner Matthew Hume.

The couple, who wed in 2008 and

have a three-year-old child, are in the

process of finalising their divorce.

Miss Smith, 29, has now left the home

they shared and moved in with her

new lover, Matthew Hume.

Mr Shepherd and Miss Smith were

staying with her mother Pat and her

husband George Greenholme until

they separated.

Mr Greenholme was Miss Smith’s first

husband - but they split after just ten

days of marriage when he admitted he

had slept with her mum.

However, Miss Smith forgave them

both and was later a bridesmaid at

their wedding.

In return Mr Greenholme even walked

her down the aisle when she wed Mr

Shepherd.

Mr Greenholme introduced Miss Smith

to friend Peter Knight and they

planned to marry in 2004, when Miss

Smith was heavily pregnant.

He jilted her at the last minute but

close friend and former boyfriend

Daniel Innes stepped in to take his

place at the last minute.

Their marriage lasted less than two

years, but Miss Smith began a

relationship with a man more than

double her age and they soon

became engaged.

William McKellican was 50 when he

wed 22-year-old Miss Smith in April

2006, but a month later she

discovered he had not divorced his

second wife. He was charged with

bigamy, but the case was later

dropped.

She then met Mr Shepherd - another

friend of her stepfather’s - at her

mother’s home. She said they 'just

clicked' when they began chatting.

When they became engaged she

described him as her 'prince' and said

she wanted to 'live happily ever after.'

But Mr Shepherd called time on their

union after he discovered her alleged

extra-marital relationship with 30-

year-old Mr Hume, who she's set to

wed next.

26yr old Nigerian rapes 14yr old in London

Ishola Adeyomi Adeoye, aged 26, from

Bermondsey met a 14 year old girl in Plumstead in

October 2010 and took her back to his home in

Woolwich. Fully aware of her age, he gave her

alcohol, waited until she passed out and then

raped her.

The victim awoke in the morning and was not

aware of what she had been subjected to. Later

that same day, having returned home, she began

to feel pain and realized that something may have

happened. After making a report to the police, a

DNA test proved she had been raped.

Officers from the Met's Sapphire Command at

Bexley launched an investigation and the DNA

profile taken was matched to Adeoye.

He denied ever meeting the victim but changed his

evidence during the trial, admitting he knew her

but still maintaining his innocence.

Detective Constable Pete Thompson said: "This was

a horrendous act committed against a vulnerable

14 year old girl.

"Adeoye tried to deny the offence and when the

evidence against him was so strong he ended up

changing his account.

"The jury clearly saw through his lies and I am

pleased with the sentencing result.

"The victim showed a tremendous amount of

courage and bravery to give evidence against the defendant.

Deoye had denied rape, but was convicted

following a week-long trial at the Old Bailey. He

was jailed for eight-and-a-half years on March 2.

Maid Cooked Employer kid’s Food With Menstrual Blood

A 17-year-old HIV positive maid from Gutu, laced

the porridge of her employer’s four- year-old child

with menstrual blood.

This was revealed in court where the maid’s cruelty

earned her a 10-year prison term on Friday. She

will effectively serve eight years as two years were

suspended on condition of good behaviour.

Pelagia Mureya, originally from Choto Village in

Chinhoyi, carried out the disgusting act several

times until luck ran out on her when one day her

employer last week noticed a drop of blood when

her child was eating porridge and investigated.

The maid professed ignorance of the blood but

her inquisitive employer took the porridge, her

child and the maid to Hospital where tests

confirmed it was the maid menstrual blood.

This is absurd and wickedness at it's highest.

SNG, CAN group want Sanusi sacked over N100m gift

The Save Nigeria Group has asked the

Federal Government to sack the

Central Bank Governor, Sanusi Lamido

Sanusi, over the N100m gift he gave to

the victims of Boko Haram attacks in

Kano State.

Also, the youth wing of the Christian

Association of Nigeria has disagreed

with the explanation given by the CBN

on the donation by the apex bank

governor, saying he should be sacked.

The SNG said the CBN governor

desecrated his office and violated the

laws of the land by manifesting ethnic

and religious bias in the discharge of

his duties.

It threatened to mobilise Nigerians to

the streets if the government failed to

sack Sanusi.

Addressing a news conference in

Abuja on Thursday, the SNG National

Coordinator, Benedict Ezeagu, stated

that Sanusi’s actions and utterances

portrayed him as “an undisciplined

politician instead of a public servant

engaging in dangerous brinkmanship

and taking advantage of Nigeria’s fault

lines and the impunity permeating the

public service.”

He said that Sanusi’s donation of

money that was not appropriated by

the National Assembly was “illegal,

provocative, divisive and a display of

clannish and ethnic bias.”

Ezeagu, who is also the Coordinator,

Lawyers of Conscience, explained that

the 1999 Constitution did not

authorise the CBN governor to

personally give out public fund.

He described the donation as an

usurpation of the statutory function of

the National Emergency Management

Agency.

The SNG activist took Sanusi to task

over his statement that the Boko

Haram insurgency was caused by the

13 per cent derivation formula,

describing this as reckless and a

questionable justification of the sect’s

activities.

Ezeagu said, “The most provocative of

his (Sanusi) actions is his recent

questionable diversion of a whopping

N100m from the CBN as a donation to

the government of his state of origin,

Kano, for the victims of the Boko

Haram insurgence without the

necessary appropriation by the

National Assembly and without

authorisation from the board of CBN

or the President/Federal Executive

Council.

“Apart from the illegality of his action,

the donation stands out today as the

pinnacle of ethnic bias and sectarian

favouritism considering the fact that

before the Kano incident, there had

been civil unrest, bombings and

fatalities in Abuja, Plateau, Borno,

Yobe, Niger, Adamawa, Nasarawa and

Oyo states.”

The SNG accused the CBN governor of

illegally donating N500m without

appropriation to the University of

Benin.

A board member of the CBN, Prof.

Sam Olofin, had defended Sanusi’s

action, saying the gesture was within

the purview of the corporate social

responsibility and mandate of the

apex bank.

He had said that the donation was not

made because Sanusi was from Kano

State, but that the huge damage

caused by the bomb blasts prompted

the apex bank to make the donation.

Quoting from the CBN Act, he had

said, “The Act in functions of

management said that the governor,

or in his absence, the deputy

governor nominated by him shall be

in charge of the day-to-day

management of the bank and shall be

accountable to the board for his acts

and decisions.

“So, there is no single action that the

governor takes to which he is not

accountable to the board or does not

entail clearance from the board.”

The Public Relations Officer of

YOWICAN, Pastor John Pofi, in a

statement obtained by our

correspondent on Thursday in Abuja,

condemned the donation by the CBN

to the Kano victims of Boko Haram

and called for the immediate sacking

of Sanusi.

Robbers invade Ogun state Governor's office

A four-man robbery gang invaded the Governor’s

Office, Oke-Mosan, and attempted to steal a Toyota

Camry car with registration number Ogun AKM 146

AA.

The vehicle was parked behind the Ministry of

Education, Science and Technology, which is

located near the Governor’s Office in the state

secretariat.

It was learnt that the robbers struck around 9.40

am in a black Nissan Quest car with an Abuja

number plate BK 944 RSH.

But in their attempt to steal the car, the vehicle’s

security system triggered off.

The development attracted the attention of the car

owner – a civil servant – who consequently raised

the alarm and alerted other workers within the

premises of the ministry.

Sensing danger, the robbers made a desperate

move to escape from the scene and drove towards

the main gate of the secretariat.

The suspects rammed their vehicle through the

gate but a policeman, who was said to have laid in

ambush, shot one of the robbers in the thigh.

The robbers were said to have abandoned their

vehicle and fled into the bush opposite the

complex.

It was, however, learnt that a reinforcement team

of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, which joined in

chasing the bandits, killed one of them.

Governor Ibikunle Amosun, who incidentally was in

his office when the robbers struck, expressed

surprise at the effrontery of the men of the

underworld.

He lauded the gallantry of the security operatives

in foiling the robbery and restated the commitment

of his administration towards improving the

security situation in the state.

“This is part of what we met on ground. I told you

before that to buy guns in Ogun State is easier

than to buy water or a bottle of Coca-cola and that

is the example of what we have seen. Imagine if

people now have the effrontery to come into the

secretariat; it is unheard of,” Amosun said.

The Commissioner of Police, Nicholas Nkemdeme,

said the command had already launched an

investigation into the incident.

“This is one of the most embarrassing situations I

have ever met; for armed robbers to enter the

Government House. I don’t know what they

wanted and I am very happy that my boys gave

them what they wanted,” he said.

Couples get married naked in Jamaica

10 couples were selected from 100 applicants to participate in the valentine's day nude wedding at a Jamaican resort.

The Valentine’s day ceremony was the first nude

wedding event at the Jamaican resort since 2003.

There had been controversy over nude weddings

in 2001 when Simpson Miller, then Jamaica’s

tourism minister, said getting married without

clothes was at odds with how Jamaica should be

marketed.

According to Zein Issa-Nakash, a marketing vice

president of Superclubs, which owns

Hedonism, this time around there were no protests

by locals and pastors as there was a decade ago.

If You Love Seafood and Shrimps, Read this

A woman suddenly died unexpecte...dly with signs

of bleeding from her ears, nose, mouth & eyes.

After a preliminary autopsy it was diagnosed that

death was due to arsenic poisoning.

Where did the arsenic come from?

The police launched an in-depth and extensive

investigation. A medical school professor was

invited to come to solve the case.

The professor carefully looked at the contents. In

less than half an hour, the mystery was solved.

The professor said: 'The deceased did not commit

suicide and neither was she murdered, she died of

accidental death due to ignorance!'

Everyone was puzzled, why accidental death?

The professor said: 'The arsenic was produced in

the stomach of the deceased.' The deceased used

to take 'Vitamin C' everyday, which in itself is not a

problem.

The problem was that she ate a large portion of

shrimp/prawn during dinner. Eating shrimp/prawn

is not the problem that's why nothing happened

to her family even though they had the same

shrimp/prawn. However at the same time the

deceased also took 'vitamin C', that is where the

problem was!

Researchers at the University of Chicago in the

United States , found through experiments, food

such as soft-shell contain much higher

concentration of five

potassium arsenic compounds.

Such fresh food by itself has no toxic effects on

the human body.

However, in taking 'vitamin C', chemical reaction

occurs and the original non-toxic elements change

to toxic elements.

Arsenic poisoning has magma role and can cause

paralysis to the small blood vessels. Therefore, a

person who dies of arsenic poisoning will show

signs of bleeding from the ears, nose, mouth &

eyes. Thus as a precautionary measure,

DO NOT eat shrimp/prawn when taking

'vitamin C'.

Zambian prostitutes offer free sex to celebrate nations cup 2012

PROSTITUTES in Lusaka’s Kanyama, John Laing,

Chawama and Kalingalinga have offered

themselves free of charge to every Jim and

Jack as part of their celebration after Zambia

beat Ghana 1-0.

A check by The Independent Post (TIP) at

nightclubs such as Kanyama’s Kanchembele

and Chine Chikayeba found long queues of men

waiting to have sex with a limited number of

prostitutes.

A single prostitute served nearly 11 men and

there were more than 200 men wanting to

celebrate Zambia’s first qualification to the

Africa Cup final since 1994 in style.

The situation was the same at John Laing’s

Corogo night Club which is situated just

opposite John Laing Basic School. But at

Corogo, a man in his mid twenties was beaten

up after he took long to attain orgasm when

his turn to have sex with the prostitute came.

“Yes, we beat him up because he took too long

to ejaculate. We were too many on line and

the guy kept on wasting time on top of the

prostitute,” said an eye-witness, identified

only as James.

And in Chawama as well as Kalingalinga, TIP

correspondents say only a handful of

prostitutes were made to serve tens of

Chipolopolo fans.

Kabiru Sokoto christmas day bomber rearrested.

LAGOS, Nigeria (AP) - Nigerian police arrested

an escaped convict suspected of

masterminding a Christmas Day church

bombing that killed at least 44 people in an

attack claimed by a radical Islamist sect, an

official said Friday.

Kabiru Sokoto's escape just a day after his

arrest led to national embarrassment and to

the firing of the country's top police official.

Presidential spokesman Reuben Abati told The

Associated Press on Friday that members of

the nation's secret police arrested Sokoto in

Taraba state, which borders Cameroon. Abati

said he had no other details about the arrest,

and referred questions to the State Security

Service.

A spokeswoman for the secret police agency

declined to immediately comment. However,

another security official who spoke on

condition of anonymity as he was not

authorized to speak to journalists, said

officers arrested Sokoto as he hid behind a

clothesline at a home in the state.

Sokoto will be flown back to Abuja, Nigeria's

capital, on an air force flight, the official said.

Police named Sokoto, an alleged member of

the radical sect known as Boko Haram, as the

prime suspect for the Dec. 25 bombing of St.

Theresa Catholic Church in Madalla, a city just

outside of Abuja.

However, Sokoto escaped from police custody

a day after his arrest, an embarrassment for

Nigeria's ill-equipped federal police. President

Goodluck Jonathan later fired the nation's top

police official a few months before his

mandated retirement.

The bombing struck just after 8 a.m. as

worshippers began to leave the sanctuary

after a morning service. A car bomb

detonated near the church's front steps,

cutting down those leaving.

Sheep give birth to half sheep/half human.

Residents of Sokoto metropolis are yet to come to

terms with the unbelievable incident that occcurred

in the city recently. That was when a sheep gave

birth to a monstrous being at a government

owned veterinary clinic in the Sokoto State capital.

The date was Monday, January 22, this year. The

news suddenly came into town at about 5pm that

a monster-like creature had been discovered in a

sheep’s womb during an operation carried out by

some veterinary surgeons in the state.

Daily Sun gathered that the inability of the sheep to

deliver made it necessary for the surgeons to carry

out the operation, after which the sheep was

delivered of the monster baby that looked half-

human.

The scene which took place at Fakon Idi Veterinary

Clinic, drew thousands of onlookers that trooped

out from different parts of the metropolis to catch

a glance of the strange being.

It took the intervention of men of the Nigerian

Security and Civil Defence Corps (NCDSC) in the

state to disperse the huge crowd who were

demanding that the owner of the animal should

come out to explain what led to the mystery birth

even as they insisted that the owner must be

probed and possibly executed.

Some of the onlookers who spoke with Daily Sun

queried the occurrence that led to the discovery of

the monster-like lamb, with many arguing that a

man might have copulated with the animal.

Garba Aminu, a commercial motorcycle rider,

averred: “This is an abomination in our land. To

see a sheep give birth to a half human being is a

mystery and that shows how terrible some people

are. It is unimaginable that some people will be

having intercourse with animals.”

Another onlooker, who simply gave his name as

Danladi, wondered how such a development could

happen in a morally upright state like Sokoto

where the Islamic faith is so deep.

Hazel Jones: The Woman With Two Vaginas:Hazel has two wombs (uteruses), two cervixes (neck of the womb) and a dividing wall between the two vaginas.she was 18 when she was diagnosed with uterus didelphys. The condition occurs when a blockade between two tubes that form the uterus fails to break down during growth, leaving two internal channels. Hazel, of High Wycombe, Bucks, did not realise she was not the same with the other girls until her periods started at the age of 14. According to her, “I told friends. They looked even more confused than me.” It took her a period of four years of going to the hospital before her problem was correctly diagnosed. As stated by her, “I thought it was amazing.” Two nights ago, Hazel told The Sun she and hubby Riki visited fetish clubs, explaining: “It shows how relaxed I am. “My quirky condition does not make me shy or hold me back. In fact, it’s something I celebrate.

Wole Soyinka top Boko Haram’s Hit List: Nobel Laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka has disclosed that he is one of the prominent Nigerians on the list of Boko Haram sect marked for assassination. In a down-to-earth interview with TheNEWS magazine which is circulated within outside Nigeria this week, Soyinka revealed that he was not only on the sect’s assassination list but very close to the top. Soyinka said he has reported this to the security operatives in the country and they confirmed the information but he expressed disappointment that the security operatives have not taken action on the threat. He said: “The reason for this programme (elimination) which I know is very much their third phase, is that those pushing this agenda know very well that this could be the last straw that will break the camel’s back. And they would rather this country broke up and possibly in an inferno than continue to accept the loss, even though temporal loss of power in this country. For these people, government is the only business around.” The Nobel Laureate said he was not against dialogue but the Boko Haram sect did not make public their demands so that they could sit at a round table with government. He added that dialogue does not require a group to constitute itself into a terror, stating that PRONACO which he joined during former President Obasanjo’s administration successful organised its conference, amended the constitution of Nigeria and presented the document to the government without violence. Soyinka said he cannot be cowed into submission by the Boko Haram or any other violent group, stressing, “I believe that one should not beg for existence. If the price of not coming to table is that you want to eliminate me, and you can do so, please do so. I am 77. “Please, come to the debating table, but you will not persuade me simply because you have the capacity to blow me and my family up. You can simply go ahead, blow us up if you think that is the way you can do your conversation. But you will not bomb me to sit with you at table,” he insisted. Soyinka said President Jonathan is underestimating the desperation of the forces behind the Boko Haram sect not considering the Islamic struggle in countries like Iraq where fundamentalist Islamic groups attack one another even in their sanctuary of worship and they retaliate with higher casualty figure.

SERAP urges Sanusi to release documents on alleged scam in subsidy system : A civil society group, Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project, SERAP, has sent a Freedom of Information, FoI, request to Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Governor, Mallam Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, urging him to “to provide documents on the systemic corruption in the subsidy system to enable our organisation petition the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC for suspected perpetrators of corruption in the system to be effectively brought to justice.” SERAP in the petition by its Executive Director, Mr Adetokunbo Mumuni, said: “We welcome your (Sanusi’ s) recent publicly expressed position that those involved in the fuel subsidy scam to the detriment of millions of Nigerians should be arrested and prosecuted by the appropriate authorities. “This request is made to obtain the necessary documents for us to send a petition to the EFCC to achieve the objectives, which you (Sanusi) have articulated for many years, that is, to bring about the effective prosecution of suspected perpetrators of the subsidy scam. “If the problems in the fuel subsidy system are not fully and urgently addressed and suspected perpetrators not prosecuted, this will continue to have a devastating effect on investment in the oil and gas sector while also discouraging the building of refineries, thus making Nigeria perpetual importer of petrol. “While N250 billion was allocated for fuel subsidy in 2011, by the end of October 2011, over N1 .3 trillion had been spent. We have information to the effect that the subsidy claim rose to N1. 5 trillion by December 2011. “Having found that no supplementary appropriation was submitted to the National Assembly by President Goodluck Jonathan, we would be grateful for information on who authorised the release of N1 .26 trillion, which was paid by CBN under your management. “We agree with you that this raises serious suspicion of corruption in the fuel subsidy system. We believe that this situation is a major contributory factor to the situation of extreme poverty in the country, which in itself is a violation of human dignity, inhibiting the full and effective enjoyment of human rights.

Jonathan's Second Speech On Fuel Subsidy : Dear Compatriots, 1. This is the second time in two weeks I will address you on the deregulation of the downstream petroleum sector. In the last seven days, the nation has witnessed a disruption of economic activities. Although, the economic imperatives for the policy have been well articulated by government, the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) went ahead to declare a nationwide strike. 2. There was also near-breakdown of law and order in certain parts of the country as a result of the activities of some persons or groups of persons who took advantage of the situation to further their narrow interests by engaging in acts of intimidation, harassment and outright subversion of the Nigerian state. I express my sympathy to those who were adversely affected by the protests. 3. At the inception of the deregulation policy, Government had set up the Justice Alfa Belgore Committee to liaise with Labour and other stakeholders to address likely grey areas in the policy, but despite all our efforts, Labour refused the option of dialogue and also disobeyed a restraining order of the National Industrial Court of Nigeria. 4. However, following the intervention of the Leadership of the National Assembly, and other well-meaning Nigerians, Labour accepted to meet with government, but this yielded no tangible result. 5. It has become clear to government and all well- meaning Nigerians that other interests beyond the implementation of the deregulation policy have hijacked the protest. This has prevented an objective assessment and consideration of all the contending issues for which dialogue was initiated by government. These same interests seek to promote discord, anarchy, and insecurity to the detriment of public peace. 6. Government appreciates that the implementation of the deregulation policy would cause initial hardships and commends Nigerians who have put forth suggestions and credible alternatives in this regard. Government also salutes Nigerians who by and large, conducted themselves peacefully while expressing their grievances. Let me assure you that government will continue to respect the people's right to express themselves within the confines of the law and in accordance with the dictates of our democratic space. 7. Government will continue to pursue full deregulation of the downstream petroleum sector. However, given the hardships being suffered by Nigerians, and after due consideration and consultations with state governors and the leadership of the National Assembly, government has approved the reduction of the pump price of petrol to N97 per litre. The Petroleum Products Pricing Regulatory Agency (PPPRA) has been directed to ensure compliance with this new pump price. 8. Government is working hard to reduce recurrent expenditure in line with current realities and to cut down on the cost of governance. In the meantime, government has commenced the implementation of the Subsidy Reinvestment and Empowerment projects: including the Federal Government- assisted mass transit programme which is already in place, and job creation for the youth. 9. Furthermore, the legal and regulatory regime for the petroleum industry will be reviewed to address accountability issues and current lapses in the Industry. In this regard, the Petroleum Industry Bill will be given accelerated attention. The report of the forensic audit carried out on the NNPC is being studied with a view to implementing the recommendations and sanctioning proven acts of corruption in the industry. 10. Let me assure Nigerians that this administration is irrevocably committed to tackling corruption in the petroleum industry as well as other sectors of the economy. Consequently, all those found to have contributed one way or the other to the economic adversity of the country will be dealt with in accordance with the law. 11. My dear compatriots, I urge you to show understanding for the imperatives of the adjustment in the pump price of petrol and give government your full support to ensure its successful implementation. I further appeal to Nigerians to go back to work and go about their normal duties as government has made adequate arrangements for the protection of life and property throughout the federation. 12. Government will not condone brazen acts of criminality and subversion. As President, I have sworn to uphold the unity, peace and order of the Nigerian State and by the grace of God, I intend to fully and effectively discharge that responsibility. Let me add that we are desirous of further engagements with Labour. I urge our Labour leaders to call off their strike, and go back to work. 13. Nigeria belongs to all of us and we must collectively safeguard its unity. 14. Thank you. God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Jonathan Orders Arrest Of Femi Falana, Tunde Bakare, Dino Melaye And Shehu Sanni : In a bid to undermine the growing protest against his government's removal of fuel subsidy, President Goodluck Jonathan has ordered the SSS to arrest civil rights attorney, Femi Falana, Fiery Lagos pastor, Tunde Bakare, ex-member of house of representatives, Dino Melaye and and Kaduna based activist, Shehu Sanni. Two sources within the State Security Services told Saharareporters that the security agency had received presidential instructions to move against these four men as well as other perceived organizers of the resistance against the government's dramatic increase of the price of fuel. "The presidency has decided that the way to break the protest is to go after those that the government believed to be the brains organizing the #Occupy Nigeria protests, " said one of the sources. The protests in the last one week has attracted larger crowds in Lagos, Ibadan, Kano, Kaduna and several other Nigerian cities to show that the masses reject President Jonathan's policy to impose further suffering on the Nigerian people. The presidency's instruction to the SSS is seen as desperate move to forestall a series of massive protests in Kaduna as well well as other northern cities and towns which promises to beat the Lagos crowd. In addition, the Jonathan administrations has been rattled by swelling crowds that have attended protest rallies in Lagos and other Nigerian cities.

Jonathan Orders Arrest Of Femi Falana, Tunde Bakare, Dino Melaye And Shehu Sanni :

oko Haram Leader Explains Why They Kill Christian : I am doing some explanations and calling on president Goodluck Jonathan and the Head of Christians, and am sending my regards to the entire community in total, Glory be to God, we are by name, Ja' mahatu Alisan'a Litahuci Ba'Jihadi Of which they call us Boko Haram, Glory be to God, we have made explanations, we have said everything that was there to be said, and everyone heard of it, but what was done for us? and everyone has seen it, what have they kept for us? and everyone has seen, what is the bone of contention between us and the people we are fighting? The people of the world, and the people that have resulted to exposing us, the people that are betraying us, trying to help the government get hold of us, these are the people that are fighting against us, we have not touched anyone else then the other set of people, the Christians, of which everyone knows what they did to us, and what they have kept for muslims, not once not twice, this has led us to have this kind of fate, there is nothing else that has prompt me to do this explanation, other than the explanations that Jonathan has come out to say about us, and the explanations that the head of Christians has come out to say about us, copied from Naijapals.com and the explanations that some individuals have been saying about us, as far as even saying we are a cancer, which is an imbecilic disease, No, we are not cancer and we are not a disease, and we are not wayward people with wicked intentions, and if the public does not know us, allah knows everybody, ...... ...... ....... speaks some arabic..... ...... ....... ....... ... Everyone knows the kind of terrible things done to us, everyone knows the mutiny that has been done to our community from time to time, like during that times of Zangon Kataf (South Kaduna), the likes of Tafawa Balewa, In the town of Kaduna, all the towns in the small villages, likes of Langtan (Jos), Likes of yarwan shangam, Likes of what happened in the city Of Lagos, So many different things has been done to the muslim community in this country, and they have gone away without any second thought, so because of that, cheating is the foundation of infidelity, As Allah said in the Qu'ran , (recites Qu'ran ). Everyone knows that the constitution is infidel, copied from Naijapals.com Everyone knows there are things that Allah has prohibited in the Qu'ran that is being taught in western educational system, We have not prohibited anything, there is nothing we have forced on anyone, the only thing we asked for is to come and follow the ways of Allah, that is how we can live peacefully, that is when we can have rest of mind, that is how Allah has said, if we do not do that, we wont have rest of mind, that is what we said, that is what we said and the government said they should finish us and kill us, and they killed us, they destroyed our mosques and drove us, and they didnt leave us alone, so we said to ourselves to stand up and defend ourselves, and Allah worked in his miraculous way, he has said that if you follow him he will give you power, and this is what has happened, and so, Jonathan, know this, this is beyond your power, because it is not our work, It is Allahs work, it is beyond your power, (Swears) all what you have been saying, its as to if you havnt started speaking yet, Because before Allah thought of the earth, he knew what would happen, and he has made a promise that he will help his disciples, so its beyond your power, it is not us doing it, and all these things that you see are happening, it is Allah that is doing them, Because you people have disregarded him, because you people have refused to follow him, because you people have abused(taken advantage) of him, because you people have made fun of his religion, so because of that Jonathan, this is way beyond your power, and if we find that some people are in support of what we are doing and they feel we are operating in honesty and are speaking good of us amongst you, then that is not a surprise, that has happened many times, our hands are opened to anyone that has agreed to walk with us, but our hands are tied, copied from N aijapals.com to anyone that says he wont follow Allah, even if they love us, Allah didnt say we should love them back, except we should persuade them and preach to them to love allah, before we can walk together in honesty, that is it and because of that, that is it, you christians should know this, prophet Isa (Jesus?) followed Allah and he is a disciple of Allah, a servant of Allah and not an equal (replacement) of Allah, The religion you are practicing of which is Christianity is not a religion of God, It is infidelity and has been prohibited by Allah, so therefore, what you are practicing is not a religion, and beside that you cheated us and killed us, infact you ate (ate) our (body ) meat and you did all you did to us, and right on that we did our work, preached to you and tried to convert you to walk with us in Allahs way, we were still sitting and praying we havnt stood up, when you started killing us, and you took our women, and you did whatever you pleased on us, and now their head, the head of Christians came out and said that all Christians should defend themselves, any sensible person knows what you are implying, Any sensible person knows what you are saying, and yet, we shall not fight with you in our way, we shall fight with you in the way that the islamic religion has allowed us to fight, which is why, as the head of this community I am telling you to repent, that is my first calling to you, All christian should relax and repent, that is my calling to you, this work that we are doing is not our work, it is Allah's work we are doing Allah's work, the community of Muslims, please understand us, we do not have intentions of killing people. or making fun of it, or taking the wealth of another, I am doing this because an explanation is necessary, even without an explanation our course will still continue, because the person i want to know me properly is the one that understands me, and before he understands me he already knows me, no matter what i say, Public please know this, we do not have any other intention rather than helping the followers of Allah, and this is the only thing I am saying, and this is the only explanation that i will do to the public, but if you are looking for further explanations, copied from Naijapals.com Look for the explanations we have done on our cassettes, and everyone will know what our intentions are, and what we want the government to address, and this is the only explanation that i will do to the head of states, Goodluck Jonathan, that has come out and said things that can not be heard about us, and done things. In this few days, we done some few campaigns and God has granted us luck to succeed, that makes everyone to stand up and start running their mouths, as if we just started this recently, since in the past, now over 11 years they have been killing us, no one said anything, infact (allah you are great, allah king, allah king,), Allah is sufficient for us, all that people will say, Allah is sufficient for us, All what people will do to use, Allah is sufficient for us, we are only following Allah, and only on Allah's commandments are we walking, we do not touch anyone, except those that touch us, this work we are doing is a command from Allah, and everything we are doing is writing in the book of Allah, Which we are following, we do not touch anyone, but anyone that says he will fight Allah, should not relent in watching his back, Even the prophet said this during his time in Mecca, Anyone that cheats religion should not play with the cloth of religion, if we see any of such person we shall kill them I swear we shall kill them, killing them is nothing to us, it is like going for the 5am prayers, and if they find us too they do kill us, but we accept in good fate, they should even kill us more, Allah should let us be killed in his name, it is a great honor, that is what we are looking for, Allah should let you kill us too, our desire is to kill and die and go to paradise, copied from Naijapals.com To say we are not practicing religion, we are not bla bla bla, these are all your talks, we know what we have set our foot on, what we have read, what book of the Qu'ran we hold, Glory be to God, These are the explanations I can do this time, This is what Allah has told me to say to you, to the general public, at the end, everyone talking about war war, we shall be the one that will start the war, if they bring it to use in the way that Allah instructs us to fight it, but we dont fight way the way the sinner wants us to fight it, we only the it the way Allah wants it, there is a way he has told us to fight and there is a way he has told us not to fight, and this is all inside the Qu'ran , one in the suratu of amfal, and the other in suratu muhamad, it is explained there, we have seen how allah did it, we have seen how those before us did it, Glory be to Allah, this is what has been laid on my heart to say to you. Glory be to Allah.

Biafra liberation council give northerners seven day to leave the south : A group known as the Biafra Liberation Council has given northerners and Muslims in the southern part of country a seven-day ultimatum to leave the area or be ready to be victims of reprisals. The group, in a statement on Sunday, also called on Igbo in the northern part of the country to vacate the area and relocate to any place outside the North. The statement by the spokesman for the group, Amaechi Nwaofia, expressed the group’s sadness over the killing of Igbo in some parts of the North by Muslim fundamentalists despite the assurance by the Federal Government to protect non- Moslems and southerners in the region. It noted that rather than encouraging the southerners to leave the northern part of the country, the government, which had been protecting the Muslims from reprisals, deceived the southerners to continue to stay in the North. The group recalled that the National Security Adviser to President Goodluck Jonathan, General Owoye Azazi, had urged southerners residing in the North to disregard the warning by members of the Boko Haram sect to leave the North. It noted that between January 4 to January 7, 2012, over 50 southerners had been killed in different parts of the North by Moslem fundamentalists.

Jay-Z 's Song For Daughter Blue Ivy :Jay-Z Releases “Glory ,” Featuring His New born Daughter Blue Ivy’s Cries Though there were jokes that Jay-Z and Beyoncé’s child, already the most famous baby in the world, would come out of the womb rapping and singing, no one expected it would actually happen this fast. Jay-Z released a song on his website welcoming his baby girl to the world (born on Saturday, Jan. 7) entitled “Glory ,” featuring “B. I.C.”— or Blue Ivy Carter herself. Hov samples the cries of Blue at the end of the track, making her the youngest kid officially in the rap game. The lyrics are sweet and straightforward, and Jay sounds mostly in awe at the whole thing : “Most amazing feeling I feel, words can’t describe the feeling for real./ Baby I paint the sky blue, my greatest creation was you, you. Glory.” Produced by Pharrell, it’s not a grand, bombastic club- banger, but rather a snippet of introspection from the new dad. Calling her “the most beautiful-est thing in this world,” we learn that she was conceived in Paris, pushing her “swag” quotient even higher. Jay-Z also reveals the anxiety and fear he had of losing her: “False alarms and false stops, all made better by the sound of your heart/All the pain of the last time, pray so hard it was the last time.” Later in the song he reveals, “last time the miscarriage was so tragic/ we was afraid you’d disappear but nah, baby, you magic.” Though there are reports that this is a reveal about a previous miscarriage for Jay-Z and Beyoncé, he might actually be referring to an unfortunate loss with an old girlfriend back in 1994. On his song “This Can’t Be Life,” from his fifth album, he references the miscarriage and writes about it in his 2010 book Decoded. But, “Everybody goes through stuff/ life is a gift, love/ open it up,” Jay tells us. As much as we enjoy the triple-meaning wordplay on some of his best tracks, it’s refreshing and heartwarming to see the rap giant humbled and joyous by his creation of life. Glory, glory, glory, indeed.

DPO Who Killed Protester Has Been Arrested And Detained The Divisional Police Officer, DPO, Pen Cinema Police Divisional Headquarters, Segun Fabunmi, has been arrested and detained on the orders of the Lagos State Police Commissioner, Yakubu Alkali. P.M.NEWS learnt that Alkali ordered the arrest of Fabunmi, a Chief Superintendent of Police, CSP, who allegedly shot dead Demola Aderinto, one of the youths playing football on a street at Ogba, Ikeja, Lagos, Southwest Nigeria, during today’s nationwide protest against the fuel subsidy removal. It was gathered this afternoon that Alkali ordered that the killer DPO be detained at the Special Anti- Robbery Squad, SARS cell in Ikeja pending the investigation of the incident. The state Police Command spokesman, Mr. Samuel Jinadu, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, DSP, confirmed to P.M.NEWS that the DPO has been arrested and is currently being interrogated over the incident. The late Aderinto was playing football with some other young men when the DPO and his men stormed the area. The DPO and his men allegedly shot into the air to disperse the harmless street footballers. But when they refused to be intimidated, the DPO and his men opened fire on them, killing Aderinto while three others were severely injured and were rushed to a nearby hospital. Fabunmi and his men lied that they opened fire on the defenceless footballers because they attempted to disarm them. Chairman Ifako- Ijaiye Local Government Area of Lagos State, Apostle Oloruntoba Oke, who visited the Pen Cinema Police Division demanded for justice, adding that the autopsy report on the deceased might confirm the police claim or otherwise. He condemned the unwarranted attack on innocent citizens in the council area and called on the residents to be calm and not to allow the crises degenerate further.

Broadcast By Pres. Jonathan On Deregulation of the Petroleum Sector : Dear Compatriots, 1. A week ago, I had cause to address Nigerians on the security challenges we are facing in parts of the country, which necessitated the declaration of a state of emergency in 15 Local Government Areas in four states of the Federation. That course of action attracted widespread support and a demonstration of understanding. With that declaration, government had again signaled its intention to combat terrorism with renewed vigour and to assure every Nigerian of safety.2. The support that we have received in the fight against terrorism from concerned Nigerians at home and abroad has been remarkable. We believe that it is with such continued support that progress can be made on national issues. Let me express my heartfelt appreciation to everyone who has expressed a commitment to support us as we strive to improve on the country’s security situation, and build a stronger foundation for the future. The recent mindless acts of violence in Gombe, Potiskum, Jimeta-Yola and Mubi are unfortunate. I urge all Nigerians to eschew bitterness and acrimony and live together in harmony and peace. Wherever there is any threat to public peace, our security agencies will enforce the law, without fear or favour. 3. This evening, I address you, again, with much concern over an issue that borders on the national economy, the oil industry and national progress. As part of our efforts to transform the economy and guarantee prosperity for all Nigerians, Government, a few days ago, announced further deregulation of the downstream petroleum sector. The immediate effect of this has been the removal of the subsidy on petrol. 4. Since the announcement, there have been mixed reactions to the policy. Let me seize this opportunity to assure all Nigerians that I feel the pain that you all feel. I personally feel pained to see the sharp increase in transport fares and the prices of goods and services. I share the anguish of all persons who had travelled out of their stations, who had to pay more on the return leg of their journeys. 5. If I were not here to lead the process of national renewal, if I were in your shoes at this moment, I probably would have reacted in the same manner as some of our compatriots, or hold the same critical views about government. But I need to use this opportunity as your President to address Nigerians on the realities on the ground, and why we chose to act as we did. I know that these are not easy times. But tough choices have to be made to safeguard the economy and our collective survival as a nation. 6. My fellow Nigerians, the truth is that we are all faced with two basic choices with regard to the management of the downstream petroleum sector: either we deregulate and survive economically, or we continue with a subsidy regime that will continue to undermine our economy and potential for growth, and face serious consequences. 7. As you all know, the subject of deregulation is not new, we have been grappling with it for more than two decades. Previous administrations tinkered with the pump price of petroleum products, and were unable to effect complete deregulation of the downstream sector. This approach has not worked. If it did, we would not be here talking about deregulation today. I understand fully well that deregulation is not a magic formula that will address every economic challenge, but it provides a good entry point for transforming the economy, and for ensuring transparency and competitiveness in the oil industry, which is the mainstay of our economy. 8. As a President, elected and supported by ordinary Nigerians, and the vast majority of our people, I have a duty to bring up policies and programmes that will grow the economy and bring about greater benefits for the people. Let me assure you that as your President, I have no intention to inflict pain on Nigerians. 9. The deregulation of the petroleum sector is a necessary step that we had to take. Should we continue to do things the same way, and face more serious economic challenges? Or deregulate, endure the initial discomfort and reap better benefits later? I want to assure every Nigerian that whatever pain you may feel at the moment, will be temporary. 10. The interest of the ordinary people of this country will always remain topmost in my priorities as a leader. I remain passionately committed to achieving significant and enduring improvements in our economy that will lead to sustained improvement in the lives of our people. 11. I am determined to leave behind a better Nigeria, that we all can be proud of. To do so, I must make sure that we have the resources and the means to grow our economy to be resilient, and to sustain improved livelihood for our people. We must act in the public interest, no matter how tough, for the pains of today cannot be compared to the benefits of tomorrow. On assumption of office as President, I swore to an oath to always act in the best interest of the people. I remain faithful to that undertaking. 12. To save Nigeria, we must all be prepared to make sacrifices. On the part of Government, we are taking several measures aimed at cutting the size and cost of governance, including on-going and continuous effort to reduce the size of our recurrent expenditure and increase capital spending. In this regard, I have directed that overseas travels by all political office holders, including the President, should be reduced to the barest minimum. The size of delegations on foreign trips will also be drastically reduced; only trips that are absolutely necessary will be approved. 13. For the year 2012, the basic salaries of all political office holders in the Executive arm of government will be reduced by 25%. Government is also currently reviewing the number of committees, commissions and parastatals with overlapping responsibilities. The Report on this will be submitted shortly and the recommendations will be promptly implemented. In the meantime, all Ministries, Departments and Agencies must reduce their overhead expenses. 14. We are all greatly concerned about the issue of corruption. The deregulation policy is the strongest measure to tackle this challenge in the downstream sector. In addition, government is taking other steps to further sanitize the oil industry. 15. To ensure that the funds from petroleum subsidy removal are spent prudently on projects that will build a greater Nigeria, I have established a committee to oversee the implementation of the Subsidy Reinvestment and Empowerment Programme. I sincerely believe that the reinvestment of the petroleum subsidy funds, to ensure improvement in national infrastructure, power supply, transportation, irrigation and agriculture, education, healthcare, and other social services, is in the best interest of our people. 16. Fellow Nigerians, I know that the removal of the petroleum subsidy imposes an initial burden on our people, especially the rising cost of transportation. Government will be vigilant and act decisively to curb the excesses of those that want to exploit the current situation for selfish gains. I plead for the understanding of all Nigerians. I appeal to our youth not to allow mischief-makers to exploit present circumstances to mislead or incite them to disturb public peace. 17. To address the immediate challenges that have been identified, I have directed all Ministries, Departments and Agencies of government to embark immediately on all projects which have been designed to cushion the impact of the subsidy removal in the short, medium and long- term, as outlined in the Subsidy Reinvestment and Empowerment Programme Document. 18. Tomorrow, 8th January, I will formally launch a robust mass transit intervention programme to bring down the cost of transportation across the country. The programme will be implemented in partnership with state and local governments, labour unions, transport owners, and banking institutions, and supported with the provision of funding at zero interest rate as well as import duty waiver on all needed parts for locally-made mass transit vehicles, which will create additional jobs in the economy. 19. We will keep these incentives in place for as long as it takes. I want to assure you that Government will not rest until we bring down the cost of transportation for our people. Let me thank the transporters’ associations that have agreed to reduce transport fares. I have directed the Minister of Labour and Productivity to work with these associations to come up with a sustainable plan to guarantee this within the shortest possible time. 20. In addition, I have ordered the mobilization of contractors for the full rehabilitation of the Port Harcourt –Maiduguri Railway Line and the completion of the Lagos-Kano Railway Line. I have also directed the immediate commencement of a Public Works programme that will engage the services of about 10, 000 youths in every state of the Federation and the Federal Capital Territory. This will create an additional 370, 000 jobs. 21. Government has taken these decisions in the best interest of our economy, so that we not only have benefits today, but to ensure that we bequeath even greater benefits to our children and grandchildren. 22. Let me assure Nigerians that every possible effort will be made to ensure that we march forward, with a collective resolve to build a Nigeria that can generate greater economic growth, create and sustain new jobs, and secure the future of our children. 23. This Administration will aggressively implement its programme to reposition and strengthen our economy, while paying adequate attention to the immediate needs of our citizens. 24. I assure you all that we will work towards achieving full domestic refining of petroleum products with the attendant benefits. 25. As I ask for the full understanding of all Nigerians, I also promise that I will keep my word. 26. Thank you. May God bless you; and may God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, GCFR President Federal Republic of Nigeria January 7, 2012.

Racism again in liverpool football club stadium - Adeyemi racially abused : Man arrested over alleged abuse of Oldham footballer Tom Adeyemi Police investigating an incident of alleged racist abuse by fans at Anfield towards Oldham Athletic defender Tom Adeyemi have arrested a man. http://www .youtube.com /watch?v= 1skBlR 7GnSY An investigation was launched after Friday night's Liverpool v Oldham FA Cup third-round game. Merseyside Police said a 20-year- old man from Aintree, Merseyside, was arrested on suspicion of a racially aggravated public order offence. The man is being held in custody and being interviewed by detectives. The game was stopped briefly while Adeyemi - on loan from Norwich - alerted referee Neil Swarbrick to the incident. On Saturday evening, Liverpool issued a statement, saying: "Liverpool Football Club continue to work closely with Merseyside Police to establish all the facts surrounding the incident that occurred during last night's game. "We take this matter extremely seriously and have today provided the police with the evidence we currently have available to us." The incident compounds a difficult few weeks for Liverpool, who were without Luis Suarez for the match against the Oldham as the striker serves an eight-match ban for racially abusing Manchester United defender Patrice Evra at Anfield in October.

Civil War Is imminent In Nigeria - Christian Association Of Nigeria : The Christian Association of Nigeria on Saturday said the rising attacks on Christians, especially in the North by the violent Boko Haram were an ‘express invitation to civil war.’ The association said Christians would be left with no choice but to look for means of defending themselves. The association also blamed Northern governors and the traditional leaders for the terrorist attacks on Christians and specifically accused them of not doing what they were supposed to do to protect the lives and property of the people in their states. After an emergency of CAN on Saturday, the president, Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor, said Christians would not make public their strategies. He said, “I don’t ask them to carry arms but we have the legitimate right to defend ourselves. We will do whatever it takes. We are working things out within ourselves; we are not obligated to tell you what we are working out, but let us wait and see. “Declaring state of emergency in some local governments obviously has not done any good. Definitely we are going to do what we have to do to protect ourselves. We cannot sit back and watch people being slaughtered like animals every day. This is unacceptable. “We therefore as Christians have decided to take our fate in to our hands and have resolved as follows: that we have decided to work out means to defend ourselves against these senseless killings; all Christians should continue in prayer and be security conscious. “We consider the inaction of governors of these states to be unsatisfactory; we hold them responsible for the heinous killing of people taking place in their states; we will not take it lightly. From the report we have received, a lot of our leaders even approached some traditional leaders but they refused to listen. “We don’t accept this and we believe that if Nigeria is for us all, then wherever you are as a Nigerian in any part of this country, you must be treated as a Nigerian, so we are holding the governors of such states for the killings.” Similarly, the Prelate of the Methodist Church of Nigeria, Dr. Sunday Makinde, has described the killing of Christians in the North by the Boko Haram sect as satanic. The Media and Public Relations Officer of the Methodist Church, Rev. Oladapo Daramola, said the Prelate had warned that if the violent insurgency was not checked, Christians would have no choice but to defend themselves, a situation, he said, was capable of degenerating into a civil war.

Adamawa State Governor Offers N25 For Information Leading To Igbo Killers : There is a N25million (100 k GBP) reward for information leading to unmasking the brains behind the spate of killings in Adamawa State. The reward is courtesy of Governor Murtala Nyako . At least 43 people have been killed in the state since Thursday. The latest victims,16 in all, were murdered on Friday night during a service at the Christ Apostolic Church,Yola, the state capital. Twenty-two people described as mourners had been killed earlier in the day at Mubi in the state by gunmen while meeting at the residence of a man who had been shot dead on Thursday to plan for his burial. Four other persons died in the Thursday attack on an hotel in the town. The Boko Haram sect claimed responsibility for the Mubi killings. Governor Nyako ,in a state wide broadcast, called the killing of innocent people by Boko Haram as a declaration of war on good by evil. He apologised to the government and people of Anambra State, where majority of victims of the Mubi massacre hailed from and promised to offset the cost of their burial hospital bill of the injured. He begged non-indigenes not to leave the state saying adequate steps would be taken to protect life and property. He said: “It is with a very heavy heart that I am addressing you on the unprecedented security situation in the state. It is only a year ago that the was state was being adjudged as the most peaceful and secured in the North- East political zone. The state has enjoyed very cordial relationship among all persons residing in the state. “Unfortunately, we are presently witnessing a spate of wanton killing unheard of in the state. In the last four days in the state, the state has suddenly started experiencing the following disastrous acts. “One, a robbery in a residential building in Mubi on Wednesday 4th January 2012 left an Igbo man and his son dead while the robbers went away with large sums of money. “Two, about the same day, there was a robbery at Mubi Cattle Market where many people were robbed. “On the evening of 5th January 2012, three men- two Igbo men and a Yoruba man- were shot dead at a beer parlour in Mubi. “Fourth, on the morning of 6th January 2012, while a group was planning the burial of the two Igbo men killed, gunmen opened fire killing 11 people. “Fifth, same day in the evening, an attack at the Apostolic Church Jimeta, Yola left 12 people dead. “Fellow citizens, there are no reasons, let alone excuses, for these murders. For the cold blooded killing of these people and others now in hospital and clinics. “The first set of those acts which were meted to persons of same ethnic and religious background, clearly meant to provoke us to consider the motive of the murders as ethnic or religious. We are not accepting that. “These are evil and criminal acts, clearly horrible, ill-motivated and irreligious. The perpetrators are merely hiding under the guise of religion and ethnicity to cause disaffection among the people of Adamawa State. “Whoever conceived these did so with the aim of disturbing the peace we enjoy in the state with its attendant adverse effects on security, harmony and socio-economic progress of the state. We must face the evil persons behind them squarely. They will not be allowed to destroy our dream of a peaceful and prosperous Adamawa State. “Let me at this juncture announce a N25m award to any individual or group who provides credible information that leads to the arrest of the perpetrators of these crimes. “I appeal to all non-indigenes of Adamawa, especially our Igbo, Yoruba and corper brothers and sisters, not to contemplate leaving the state but go about their normal businesses. “The security agencies have taken all necessary steps to protect lives and property of everybody in the state. “Let me also appeal to all concern not to take the law into their hands here in the state or outside the state. We are reaching out to our colleagues in other states to cooperate with us in soothing the obviously frayed nerves and angry relatives of the deceased. “I send to them, especially the relatives of the deceased, and the maimed, the Government and people of Anambra State our deepest condolences. We also extend such condolences to the relatives of the victims of other criminal acts. “I hereby assure you that the Adamawa State Government will bear all the burial and medical expenses on behalf of the families of those involved.

CHRISTIAN YOUTH ATTACK SAPELE MOSQUE - 7 KILLED : No fewer than seven persons were seriously injured yesterday when a group of Christians attacked a mosque in Sapele, Delta State. Saturday Sun gathered that the youths, who were armed with dangerous weapons, stormed the mosque at about 6am and unleashed terror on the people that were around. It was learnt that the youths, after the attack, asked the Muslims in Sapele to pack out of the area and return to the North. Speaking to newsmen on the attack, Mallam Sadiq Musa said some of the victims have been taken to the hospital for treatment. According to him, “it is a pity that our brothers are attacking us. If they ask us to leave, where do they want us to go? SISTER TORTURES 15YR OLD BROTHER TO DEATH USING HAMMER AND NAILS: It has emerged at an ongoing case at the Old Bailey, that a 15 year old boy Kristy Bamu was on Christmas day, tortured with pliers, knives and a hammer after being accused by his sister of being a witch. Magalie Bamu 28, and her boyfriend Eric Bikubi 27, attacked Kristy and his other 2 sisters for days saying there were ‘sorcerers’ . Kristy was in such pain after days of being attacked with sticks, a metal bar, hammer and chisel that he begged to die, jurors heard. After being tortured, he was forced into a bath despite his exhaustion and obvious pain. He couldn’t keep his head above the water and ended up drowning in the bath. The teenage boy had suffered 101 injuries – his face and head were covered in cuts and some of his teeth were missing when he was found in the blood-soaked flat. Bamu called an ambulance to her home in Forest Gate, East London, on Christmas Day 2010 and told the operator her brother had drowned himself in the bathroom. Prosecutor Brian Altman QC was quoted as saying: ‘The boy was subjected to unimaginable physical torture at the hands of his older sister and her partner and by some of his siblings, who in order to avoid violence to themselves, were forced to participate in the brutality being meted out to Kristy” When Paramedics arrived at the flat, they also found Kristy’s four siblings – brothers Yves, 22, and a 13-year-old , and two sisters Kelly, 20, and a younger sister. ‘All were standing in the living room, hysterical, terrified and soaking wet. None of them spoke any English. Both girls appeared to be injured, ’ said Mr Altman. All the family were French but Kelly allegedly confided in a paramedic who spoke the language. Kelly had pointed out a piece of wood with which, she said, Bikubi had hit her over the head, and a metal bar with which she was beaten. She had also pointed to a hammer which he had used to hit Kristy in the mouth, the court heard. A plastic bin bag contained broken ceramic floor tiles which she said had been used to hit Kristy over the head. ‘She went on to explain to the paramedic that over the last four days Eric Bikubi had been abusing the younger sister, Kristy and herself,’ Mr Altman told the court. Police were reported to have recovered the bloodstained pliers, a hammer chisel and several knives. ‘As you will discover, quite incredibly many of these items were to become part of the armoury of weapons which were used by the defendants to beat Kelly and and torture Kristy to death,’ Mr Altman said. ‘In a staggering act of depravity and cruelty, they both forced the others to take part in the assaults upon Kristy.’ The five siblings had left their home in Paris to spend Christmas with the couple at the flat in East London. ‘They had stayed with them before and just as with their previous visits they had enjoyed themselves for the first few days,’ Mr Altman said. ‘But the mood had changed when Bikubi accused Kristy, Kelly and the 11-year-old of being sorcerers – practising witchcraft. ‘Despite her own siblings’ denials that they were sorcerers, Magalie Bamu joined her boyfriend in repeating these fantastic claims and participating in the assaults. ‘Both Erik Bikubi and Magalie Bamu beat the three of them, refusing to let them eat drink or sleep for days while the punishments became increasingly violent with them using the many implements found in the flat as weapons of torture and physical abuse. ‘However, it was Kristy who became the focus of Bikubi’s attention and, in a desperate attempt to prevent any further suffering, he and his two sisters were eventually to admit to being sorcerers. ‘Wickedly, the defendants also recruited sibling against sibling as vehicles for their violence. ‘In a staggering act of depravity and cruelty, they both forced the others to take part in the assaults upon Kristy. Mr Altman went on: ‘Bikubi made everyone in the flat pray and chant together all night long, but that did nothing to alleviate the children’s plight. ‘On the contrary, the defendants just continued the violence as before. ‘As Kirsty’s injuries became ever more severe he even pleaded to be allowed to die. ‘Eventually Bikubi took him into the bathroom, put him in the bath and started to run the water. ‘Kirsty was just too badly injured and exhausted to resist or to keep his head above the water. It is possible he was even unconscious. ‘While Kristy succumbed to death, Bikubi put Yves, Kelly and the two other children into the bath with their brother and hosed them all down with cold water using a shower head.’ Kristy had been found on the bathroom floor and Bamu said her brother had drowned himself in the bath, it was alleged. His head and face were covered in deep cuts and bruising, his arms and back had cuts, and there were teeth missing or loose. ‘Kristy had been the victim of a prolonged attack of unspeakable savagery and brutality,’ said Mr Altman. The court was told that several calls had been made to the children’s father Pierre in Paris, and Kristy told him that Bikubi was going to kill him. But Mr Bamu did not believe his son because he had always regarded Bikubi as ‘pleasant and gentle’. ‘He had sent his children on holiday, not to a torture chamber,’ added Mr Altman. Mr Altman told jurors that the couple were believers in ‘kindoki’ – a form of witchcraft that pervades almost all sections of their native Congolese society. The couple deny murder and causing actual bodily harm to Kelly and the 11-year-old .

We have however arrested two of the hoodlums. “The fight is a supremacy battle fuelled by thugs who wanted to control businesses in the area. A man, who identified himself simply as Olawale, said, “How could they murder such a young and unarmed man like that in a broad day light? Even if they asked him to alight from his vehicle and he refused, is that enough to kill him? “If they are interested in restoring peace in the area, they should have gone after the hoodlums who have been causing mayhem in the area for a long time. It is unfortunate that such a promising man should be unjustly killed in his prime like that. It is high time government restored law and order in the area.” When contacted, the spokesperson for the state police command, Mr. Samuel Jinadu, denied any violence in Mushin.

13 YEARS OLD KILLS AND WRAPS HER BABY IN JEANS: A 13 year old girl in suburban Illinois has been taken into custody after it emerged she wrapped up her new born baby in a pair of bloody jeans and dumped the infant boy in the trash. The girl whose identity is being kept hidden as she’s a minor, says she didn’t realise she was pregnant when she went into labor. An autopsy revealed the baby to have been full term but only 4 pounds and 2 ounces. Newborns generally tend to weigh between six and eight pounds. Ironically, Illinois prides itself on its Safe Haven laws which were promulgated through the efforts of the Save Abandoned Babies Foundation. The laws allow pregnant mothers who do not want to keep their babies, the opportunity to anonymously leave such babies outside designated locations. These babies are then put up for adoption with no questions asked. This baby’s death was thus seen as doubly unnecessary.

The Catholic nuns were reportedly ambushed and raped by gun-toting men, as they approached the community at night fall to evangelise and pray for the sick in the area. Although the sisters are said to have been too scared to report the matter to the police, sources close to the Divisional Police Station in Aniocha South LGA, said the police have however begun a manhunt for the rapists. A reverend sister in the church simply identified as Fidelia, said she was not aware of the incident and could not comment on what she did not know. Gabrielle Joseph, 16, told friends on Facebook: ‘I am going to kill myself tonight’ because she was so upset at being turned down for the date, due on the following night. WATCH Ghana comedy hit movie: 6 hours to christmWhat was supposed to be a typical Christmas Eve for Creative Director Reggie and his fiancé Akos takes a different turn when an office colleague he has been lusting after offers a gift impossible to refuse. ‘6 hours to Christmas’ is a simple dark comedy of a would be office romance gone bad and is set around a small cast of seven (7). After promising his fiancé to be home for a special Christmas celebration and fire works earlier on in the day, Reggie played by Chris Attoh had other plans unknown to every one else, what he did not know was how those other plans were going to bring him the worst Christmas eve ever. Saucy Pebbles played by new comer Damilola Adegbite invites Reggie home for his ‘Christmas present’ and the events that unfolds in her apartment afterwards is what makes the whole movie bizarre and funny at the same time. The chemistry between Chris and Damilola is perfect and the ‘tinsel’ actress puts up a sterling performance in her first lead role combing humor and emotions and making the viewer feel sorry for the situation she found herself in. The supporting cast of veteran actor Odoi Mensah and ‘things we do for love’ alum Sena Tsikata, Mariam Lempogo who plays Chris Attoh’ s girlfriend’ makes ‘6 hours to Christmas’ a delight to watch.

The Spirit of Dele Giwa By Wunmi Tunde-Obe: Dele Giwa ( 16 March 1947 - 19 October 1986) Shortly after Newswatch founding member and Editor-in-Chief , Dele Giwa was prematurely blasted into the hereafter, his biography, ‘Born to Run’ was published. Authored by renowned journalists, Dele Olodeje and Onukaba Adinoyi-Ojo (then of Newswatch and Daily Times respectively), the book became my most treasured companion for the duration of my perusal. I’d never met Dele Giwa, but I’d known of him, through my eldest sister, Angela, who was then an Advert executive with Newswatch, and she it was who relayed the sad news that her boss had been ‘exiled’ to the place of no return. Only 16 at the time and an ‘A’ level boarding student at Queens College, Yaba Lagos, I became a daily visitor to the schools’ library – somewhere to which my lazy behind hardly ever ventured before then – just to keep up with the news in the dailies, and learn more about this man and the offence he must have committed to have deserved this new and ‘unique’ mode of elimination. I read how it happened – blow by blow. I saw the aftermath pix – of both location and victim. And I read all sorts of comments, reactions, speculations, condolences, possible reasons, accusations and counter-accusations. I even began reading up on various types of bombs. Yes o, dynamite, grenades, time bombs, parcel bombs, molotov cocktails … the lot. Final exams were pending but I focused on nothing else throughout that period. I was so intrigued, I became obsessed. I followed the burial arrangements and the controversies embedded within: His people were going to bury him in his native town of Ugbekpe- Ekperi in Edo state; His colleagues – Ray Ekpu, Dan Agbese and Yakubu Mohammed – had on the other hand insisted that Dele Giwa had in his lifetime expressed the desire to be buried at the site of the Newswatch permanent headquarters; To comply or not to comply..? Well I suppose it was just as well he was interred at the village eventually, considering now that a certain Jimoh Ibrahim, in deciding to spread his dying- business-acquiring tentacles towards the weekly news print media, has now added Newswatch to his growing list. Anyhow, then came the book. And from the book I’d learned that Dele Giwa, a self-made man from humble beginnings, was a highly intelligent and gifted journalist with a powerful command of the English language. This was prevalent in his then must-read Newswatch coloumn, PARALLAX SNAPS. A man of integrity – the kind (sad to say) I’m not so sure exists today among most of his newbreed counterparts (it’s all about the benjamins, these days). Dele Giwa would neither be bought nor compromised, nor would he be deterred from revealing the truth, regardless of the consequences. And these he bore eventually – with his life. He was confident. Good-looking. (sister told me that one!) A ladies’ man and a charmer. Unapologetic and arrogant, but in a positive kind of way. He lived by his favourite mantra, ‘The pen is mightier than the sword’. And so he dared anyone, and feared no-one. Not even the soldier and his cash-embezzling troops, who were in power at the time … his undoing. For one fateful Sunday morn – October 19th 1986 at his Talabi st. off Adeniyi Jones residence, a despatch rider dropped a parcel with his eldest son, Billy, who took it in to his father, having breakfast in his study whilst meeting with the Newswatch London Bureau Chief, Kayode Soyinka. Dele Giwa on seeing ‘from the C-in-C ’ boldly inscribed on the parcel, remarked to his guest, ‘this must be from the president..’. Animatedly, he placed the parcel on his laps and made to open it … BOOOOM!!!!!! Rending the air- conditioned atmosphere was an explosion so loud, it instantly shattered the eardrums of Mr. Soyinka, who had been thrown to the ground while seated across the table from his boss. And the rest, as you all know it, is history. Including Dele Giwa. Cut down in his prime at the unripe age of 39, Dele Giwa became a hero. A man of journalistic principle and integrity who lived and died for what he believed in. Headlines. Accolades. Tributes galore. A certain lawyer was even shot into prominence after he’d braved all odds to publicly accuse and charge the highly suspected ‘powers that be’ to court, for the killing of Dele Giwa. His name was Gani Fawehinmi. I wanted to be Dele Giwa. Oh yeah, I had big dreams. I was going to step into his shoes and carry on from where he’d left off. Everyone would applaud my writing skills and I would thrash all and military sundry with my pen. I would expose and condemn evil, and praise good. I would dare anyone and fear no-one. I would boldly advise the then residents of Dodan Barracks to stick their threats, bombs and bazookas where the sun doesn’t shine. I would … become Dele Giwa. Knowing the risks, I would update my will every fortnight. I would spend every other weekend languishing in some undisclosed jail cell, whilst my compatriots organised revolts(yes !) and rallies, demanding my immediate and unconditional release. Almost every weekend, they’d storm my home after midnight and drag me by my braids to some secret location for a ‘chat’. I’d make headlines, no doubt, especially after each release from detention. Mine would be a hero’s welcome. I’d constantly be in the news. They’d call me ‘Amazon’. I’d keep spewing forth and spitting fire. I’d be … Dele Giwa. My family and loved ones would beg me after my release to shut my trap, lest I go the way of my mentor, but I’d keep ranting on and on. I’d go philosophical on their as-es: ‘There’s nothing to fear but fear itself..! They can kill my body but they can’t kill my spirit …! The pen is mightier than the sword..!’ blah … blah … blah. On and on I’d rave whilst they’d cringe in fear for my life. Oh and did I mention that I’d be doing hunger strikes as well? Yes o, and it would even mean I’d finally start that diet which I’d been postponing for years. Perhaps I’d even drop a few kilos in the process and fit into that my dream size 10 wedding dress still on the hanger at Harrods.. Maybe I’d even grow dreadlocks to complete the starving, dishevelled look. You know, hunger strike with ‘effizy’ . So yeah, I’d be the country’s most respected pen- toting female. I would possess the kind of guts, courage and fearlessness that the likes of Leonidas (300 ) could’ve only dreamt of. Mine would be the name that old school mates would drop alongside every flimsy hat. Mine would be the life of quality above quantity. Yes, mine would be … the spirit of Dele Giwa. I would live a hero. And die a hero. For if one day, the powers that be finally decided to produce a bullet, grenade or the like with my name on it, the ovation would be even louder. Comments, speculations, possible reasons, accusations, counter-accusations, tributes, accolades, t-shirts , billboards, banners … headlines … FAME…! They’d immortalise me with annual lectures and re-name streets and stuff after me – say, Ikorodu road. I WAS GOING TO BE DELE GIWA!!!!! Er, not anymore.. Once, at the age of 4, I was bridesmaid at a certain airline Capt. Moses Gowon’s wedding in Kaduna. By way of his status and elder brother being in power at the time, the church was dotted left, right and centre with armed soldiers. I was so frightened at the sight of all them guns, I shut my eyes tightly throughout the service, believing that if I couldn’t see them, then surely they weren’t there! Till I fell fast asleep. Front row. Only me, amongst the other young bridesmaids. And for the duration of the entire ceremony! So is it now that I want to start confronting armed men in uniform..?? Abeg, let’s just view my earlier words as the senseless and naïve ranting of an overambitious teen, shall we? And so the way it stands now, the Joe Odumakins and the Ayo Obes are more than welcome to hog the limelight, for these are the real amazons of our time. I troway salute – Shun! And detention..?? No way. Because detention would mean, no music, no ‘Oprah!’, no pedicure (not that I’ve had one this year, anyways!), no Chinese food, no junk food, no fast food, no food – period. Do they want to kill me?? And DO NOT even get me started on the hunger strike thing. As for quality over quantity – yes that’s a good thing, but so help me God, I want to see my grandchildren. I cannot fill Dele Giwa’s shoes. And 25 years later, I’m not sure that anyone can. Nonetheless, I have decided to continue writing, but only for the heck of it. I’ll write whenever I’m able to get off my sorry behind and grab a pen. Then I’ll write about anything and everything, as long as it makes for good reading and – sometimes even – makes you laugh. Suffice to say, I am … not Dele Giwa. Then maybe one day, I’ll roll everything into one tiny publication, organise a small presentation and make some ‘fast cash’, lol. But the icing on the cake would most definitely be: Wunmi Tunde- Obe: Singer, songwriter, entrepreneur, Advert Practitioner …. Author. NOT… Dele Giwa.

‘Knock, Knock, Knock’ – Lagbaja: Nobody understands how Lagbaja has managed to remain relevant over the years. While other artistes engage their fans with radio/ TV interviews, Twitter et al, the Africano star uses his most powerful tool – the message behind his music to captivate us. Lagbaja’s twist of humour, sarcasm, social and moral standards never bores us and on his latest single ‘Knock, Knock, Knock’, which depicts love- gone- bad tale, his coarse yet melodious voice paints a vivid picture. The video does justice as well…

Meanwhile, the Ezillo axis of Abakaliki/ Enugu expressway has been closed to traffic to forestall motorists and commuters falling victims to the tragedy. It will be recalled that communal clashes and conflict, had in 2007, erupted between the Ezillo community and their Ezza/Ezillo neighbours resulting in the loss of lives and destruction of property. Boko Haram Militants Give Christians Three Days to Leave the North:Boko Haram militants yesterday gave Christians three days to leave the north following President Jonathan’s declaration of a state of emergency in four northern states, and have also asked Muslims to leave the south of Nigeria. Boko Haram spokesperson, Abul Qaqa, speaking in the Hausa language to journalists in a phone conference yesterday said.. “We find it pertinent to state that soldiers will only kill innocent Muslims in the local government areas where the state of emergency was declared. We would confront them squarely to protect our brothers. We also wish to call on our fellow Muslims to come back to the north because we have evidence that they would be attacked. We are also giving a three-day ultimatum to the southerners living in the northern part of Nigeria to move away.”

Clashes between rival ethnic groups in Ebonyi state leave 60 dead: Clashes between rival ethnic groups in eastern Nigeria's Ebonyi state on Saturday Dec 31 killed at least 50 people, the state government spokesman said, and police said mobile units had been sent to the state to quell the violence. The clashes erupted from a long running rivalry between the Ezza and Ezilo people of Ishielu district that periodically flares up.Up to 60 people died in the violence. It is difficult to give the exact figure because when we visited Ezilo community, which was the scene of the incident today ... villagers were still bringing out corpses," Ebonyi state spokesman Onyekachi Eni told Reuters by telephone. "Fifty corpses were shown to us." Violent disputes over land are common in Africa's most populous country because the majority of its 160 million people are subsistence farmers living in rural areas with few means of arbitrating disputes. Hundreds of people are killed every year in such clashes, many going unreported because of a lack of reliable information about them. State Commissioner of Police Adeola Adeniji said the divisional crime officer for the area was killed in the violence. "Mobile police have been sent there and the inspector general has directed more to come," Adeniji said. Chioma Oke, an Ezilo who survived the clashes, said they started around 5 a.m. "We heard sporadic gunshots and we began to run. They burned our houses. They said they were retaliating for an attack on them last year," she said.

Raped and Impregnated, Miss Chinelo Is Still A Full Virgin With Hymen Present: Alot of things happen in this our time, we all know of the story of virgin mary, getting pregnant through divine means. But how do we explain this case, Miss Chinelo was raped, tested positive to pregnancy, BUT her hymen is still intact hence still a virgin! FUll Story Below: Quote A teenage lady whose virginity was said to be intact after being tested positive of pregnancy is in a dilemma. Her story though far from the Biblical narrative of the Virgin Mary, strikes the mind on the possibility of remaining a virgin after she was raped by her own cousin, leaving her hymen intact but resulted in a pregnancy. Chinelo, a fair-complexioned young lady, darting nervously between the floor and her hands narrated to Saturday Vanguard how her second cousin, Onyeka, put her in the family way. She had gone to her mother’s cousin’s house in Ihiala, Anambra state for her UME exams and had slept on the same bed with her second cousin, Onyeka. According to her, she woke up late that fateful morning and found herself wet with semen. She asked Onyeka what it meant but he was said to have waved it off as nothing important. Chinelo, naive, accepted his excuse and moved on. “I woke very late, very dizzy even his mother noticed and asked me whether I was feeling alright that morning. I told her I was okay but when I went to the bathroom, I discovered I was wet but did not feel any pain. I asked him but he smiled and waved it off. I did not disclose to anybody. I just cleaned up. “I finished my mensuration five days before then. I also wrote my NECO there but left after a week I finished my exams. I went back to Onitsha, and on the 27th of July, I came to Lagos to my sister’s house. There I missed my period. I told her and she advised that we should wait for some days, saying it might be a shift,” Chinelo said. Chinelo began to notice symptoms of pregnancy after a month. “A month later, I felt sick. My sister and I thought it was malaria. But what later convinced my sister was when I started vomitting. Our neighbour advised we should go to the hospital. My sister obliged and we went to General Hospital, Aguda. They even gave me money for the test. “It was on Sunday, so the lab personnel did not come. We returned home and went back the following day. A test was conducted and we waited for about 30 minutes. When the result came out, they wrote ‘malaria not seen and pregnancy positive’. “While waiting, my sister had also taken her sick daughter to see a doctor. I approached a woman sitting close to me to explain the result to me and she looked at me and asked whose result was it, saying it indicates pregnancy. When my sister came, I gave it to her and she asked how come I became pregnant. “I told her I didn’t know that I didn’t have a boyfriend. She took me to their head nurse who also is a counsellor. She tried to convince me but I maintained my position knowing it was the truth. They decided to take a virginity test on me with the aid of a machine. The result came out and it was confirmed that I am still virgin,” she narrated. Then the pressure came. The medical team and her sister probed further and Chinelo broke the ice saying: “I remembered the incident in my aunty’s house and I asked whether if someone was wet without making love could result into pregnancy? They asked me who was with me and I told them how I saw myself wet that morning when I woke up. I further told them how I drank the juice and slept off. I did not know what happened again. The medical team and her sister concluded that pregnancy could occur without a penetrative intercourse since her virginity was intact. But Chinelo maintained she had no idea of how it happened as she suspected she must have been drugged with the juice she was served after dinner. In a raspy voice pausing briefly and looking down again, she continued, “They asked me to call him (my cousin) and tell him the situation to know his reaction. I did and I threathend I was going to tell everybody what he did if he did not tell me the truth. He pleaded that he would call me back. Miss Chinelo He immediately sent a text massage to me, recommending some drugs to terminate the pregancy, asking me to go get it and take it immediately. I called him back asking him if he did not know anything about why he sent such message to me? I later got to know that everybody in the family took him on and he confessed to have done it. Since then, he stopped picking my calls until last two weeks when I called him accusing him of causing my problem.” She stated that it was not the first time she would sleep on the same bed with Onyeka but insisted she did not know how he did it. Chinelo has already gained admission to study Mass communication at Delta State University, Abraka, Delta State but she would have to suspend her quest for further studies pending the delivery of the baby sometime in March 2012, all things being equal. She however explained that the incident was too painful to contemplate but she had forgiven him, and would relate with him well anytime they meet again. Her words: “Forgiveness is of the Lord. I have already forgiven him. Recently, some people were of the view that I should call him with another number and reign curses on him but I said no. “So also, when some of my brothers decided to involve the police, my mother objected, saying they should allow the sleeping dog to lie. Even if I see him anywhere I will relate with him well, I have forgiven him,” she said as her words fall over each other in a bid to assemble. The overwhelmed lady is currently taking refuge at the Tamar Rescue Foundation, Lagos, a non- governmental organisation that sensitizes young girls on the menace of sexual abuse and rape and offers advice to victims and mentors them through lectures, seminars and empowerment programs. Mrs Ugo Onwuraokoye the founder of the foundation, an Igbo also from Anambra state, said: “In Igboland, such incest is termed as alu (abomination) and I understand the young man who did this is having problems with his business and his whole life, just because this is an abomination. This is incest and because it is an abomination. It has its own curses.” She disclosed that Chinelo would have to be with her pending the delivery of the baby. “They brought her to me and I have to accept the challenge because that is what my ministry Tamar Rescue Foundation is all about. Her story will teach others some lessons because some don’t know that playing around even without penetration can result into pregnancy because sperm swims. It is one of the miracles of becoming a pregnant virgin. Her admission is through but she cannot go back to school now untill she delivers the baby. She will be here with us and after the delivery, Tamar Rescue will adopt the baby and she will continue with her studies,” Onwuraokoye said. According to her: “Everyday a child is being raped. Since I started I have only been able to go 80 schools to sensitize them. Like the case of this girl, it is as a result of sheer ignorance, she didnt know and it occured five days after her menstrual period. Again, granted that it happened, there is a drug you can take immediately to prevent pregnance and of course sexual transmited diseases within 24 hours. If she had been aware, she would have talked to an adult and immediately, something would have been done would have been done to prevent this situation. “Right now, she may not understand the full implication, she can’t go to school, her admission is out but she cant go until after she delivers the baby and other distractions that will follow it. By January 10, she will be six months gone in this pregnancy and yet she has not started anti-natal classes because there is no money, they just brought her to me. And as it is, the parents are trying to be careful because in Igboland, this is an abomination. This is a shame. You see, everyday my heart aches because parents and children are acting in ignorance. I cannot allow my daughter to go to my sister’s house where I know my sister has a grown up son and sleep in the same room. I cant allow that because I am aware.” She adviced that parents should always teach their children ways of avoiding this vices, adding that some parents want their daughters to look trendy allowing them to wear cloths that expose their bodies, noting that the heart evil men around is thinking a different thing; they are not looking at the young girl as a child but as a woman. Doctors speak It’s not possible!— Dr. Akeem Agboola of Life Fountain Clinic, Lagos We only have one virgin Mary and I don’t know about any other. Girls come here with such claim and by the time you test them, you will discover that it is all lies. For me, until you confirm from the doctor who tested her virginity, I can’t believe the story. If she’ s pregnant and claims to have been raped, it means that there was penetration. I also don’t believe that pregnancy can occur by merely playing around the virgina without penetration because there must have been a penetration before an ****** and the sperm will locate where the cervica opening is and locate where the egg is before there can be pregnancy. In the absence of this, sombody claiming that sperm was splashed on the virgin or something, and resulted in preganacy, I won’t accept that. Yes! It’s possible — Prof. Oladapo Ashiru of Medical Art Centre, Maryland, Lagos It is possible. The virgina is not a big passage, it is like a hole and anything can go through, sperm can also go through. If she is at the peak, it is possible without penetration though it requires a little bit of penetration and that also can still leave the hymen unbroken. So, it is possible the hymen is still there. Dr. Odiboh, an Obsterician said it is possible without penetration but advised that the days of the incident be confirmed and that the tests should conducted again. One of the doctors at the Lagos State Teaching Hospital who prefered said: “You do not have to have sexual intercourse to be impregnated. Sperm can swim up the vagina if they are strong enough. The chances are, of course, much less likely but it’s still possible. Any time sperm comes into contact with the vagina, there is a chance of pregnancy. However, the chance is obviously much larger when the semen is shot into the vagina, as opposed to just rubbed on the outside of it. The chances of a girl getting pregnant from a minimal amount of sperm touching the outside of her vagina is very slim.” A further research on the issue revealed that one does not have to get involved into a sexual activity or intercourse, to be precise, for getting pregnant. All that is required is for impregnation is the sperms of a male partner that swim up to the vaginal opening and seek entry. Most sperms are not capable of doing this, since they cannot survive in the atmospheric temperature. But some viable and strong ones do it. Such chances are, of course, slim, yet possible is everything. Also, if there is intentional sexual activity, but without penetration, then the released sperms can find some medium to reach up the female vagina and begin to act. Since, signs of pregnancy are seen in later months after having the impregnating intercourse, there is no way of recognizing that a female has become pregnant without losing her virginity. It is simple. If the ****** of a female’s male sexually partner reaches her vagina, though there had no penetration taken place, then she can get pregnant and remain a virgin. One more reason for appearance of cases of females getting pregnant, without losing their virginity, is the artificial insemination technique. Many females try artificial insemination when their sexual attempts to give birth to a baby are unsuccessful. Some do it before even trying the intercourse because of fear and pain. If artificial insemination can resut in pregnancy, then it is possible that pregnancy can occur without penetration. Artificial insemination is nothing but injecting a sperm into a female vagina. A sperm can live up to 24 hours after it is ejaculated out of the male body and before it begins its action of hatching the female egg. If, within these 24 hours it reaches inside a female vagina and begins its job, then there are quite favorable chances that she would get pregnant, though her virginity is intact. Thus, just being virgin does not guarantee one of a ‘no’ on pregnancy reports. But rather than that, follow the simple rule of never bringing the male genital organs near a female’s, if you really do not want to face an unwanted pregnancy, especially a virgin.
